Ford Escort was the first car to come out of Mahindra Ford, the JV between Mahindra and Ford Motors. The cars were assembled at a modern assembly line at the Nashik plant of Mahindra.

Ford Escort was available in 2 variants, a 1.3 lit Gasoline version and a 1.8 lit Diesel version.
Escort Petrol was fitted with –
- 1.3 lit, 4 cyl, Petrol Engine, Central Fuel injection.

- 9.5 Kgm @ 2500 rpm
- 5-speed Transaxle

Escort Diesel was fitted with –
- 1.8 lit, 4 cyl, Diesel Engine, Naturally Aspirated.

- 11.2 Kgm @ 2500 rpm
- 5-speed Transaxle
- 100” Wheelbase
- 57″ Wheel Track
The vehicle was specially re-engineered for Indian operating conditions by Ford Engineering. Aspects like ground clearance, air-conditioning, clutch, brakes etc were made suitable for India. The product brochure says that “even the horn has been upgraded so that your chauffeur can get you there on time!”.
